May: employee health and fitness month

By

May happens to be Employee Health and Fitness Month and I am here for it!  Granted, as a health coach, I am a little biased, but in my opinion, as a business leader, if you care about your employees, you will not only increase your positive outcomes, but you will also have less employee turnover.  Let me share some sobering statistics:

  • Roughly 40% of the workforce is pre-diabetic (have fasting blood sugars that are above normal)
  • About 60% is overweight or obese
  • About 80% of the workforce reports that they experience regular, high-impact stress that affect their jobs

What does this mean for employers?  If you offer your employees insurance, this can equate to:

  • Obesity creates roughly $9,000 in direct AND productivity costs (per person)
  • Hypertension is about $900/year in medicine (per person)
  • About 75% of all healthcare costs come from lifestyle diseases (CDC), which means they can be reversed!

There is good news, however.  For every dollar spent on wellness, a business can:

  • decrease medical costs $3.27
  • decrease absenteeism costs $2.73

Even better-the solution is right here!  Creekside offers Workplace Wellness programs to not only boost the health and happiness of businesses, but also a 360 degree view of the overall satisfaction of your employees.  I tailor all corporate wellness programs to the specific goals of your employees, increasing engagement and health.  With my Workplace Wellness solution, you get:

  • A comprehensive report of the overall wellness, morale, and culture of your workplace environment.
  • Workplace health challenges addressing the top health goals of your employees, WITH INCENTIVES!
  • Each participant receives 2 virtual meetings per month with me to increase accountability and success, PLUS texting ability through GroupMe
  • There is no minimum number of participants needed, so you can do a trial before doing a larger roll-out

In addition to the health benefits, I will post your company on my partner page, so you get free publicity through my website!

Why work with a health coach?

I get it; I often get confused as a life coach, personal trainer, dietician, etc.  The health and wellness arena is huge and it can be very confusing to navigate.  So why would you want to work with a health coach?

For lots of reasons.  As a health coach, my job is not to tell you what to do.  Yes, you read that right;  I won’t tell you what to do.  My job is to meet you where YOU want to start.  If your goal is to lower your blood pressure, we will start there.  We will also talk about the changes you want to make NOW.  An obvious way to lower blood pressure may be to cut back on fast food, but if you aren’t ready to commit to that change, we will start in an area you are ready to commit to.  I will help you create sustainable steps that will help you achieve your health goals.  Because we are creating sustainable action steps, you will have MORE success, both now and long-term. I also provide accountability in following through on your action steps so you actually are working towards better health.

Another benefit of working with me is I am now a National Board Certified-Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC)!  This certification was created in collaboration with the National Medical Board Examiners and is the highest level of credentialing a health coach can have.  In addition to being very knowledgeable in a variety of health areas, I went through training on how to be a coach and then was required to accumulate at least 50 practice coaching sessions before I could apply to even take the exam. Because of this extensive training, working with a NBC-HWC certified coach can be covered by some FSA and HSA plans.

We always look for the perfect time to start taking care of ourselves, but the reality is that the only perfect time to start is now.  We only get one life and the longer we put off making changes, the less time we have to enjoy our lives.  Start taking care of yourself now.  Start taking care of your employees now.  Visit my website today to schedule a free consultation to talk about how we can work together to make your business the best possible workplace it can be!
